Working from home (WFH) is not new to many in the corporate body. Some months back, I had the privilege to interview a few people who would prefer the comfort and ease that comes with this arrangement to the conventional office routine. Some of them attributed their improved effectiveness and productivity to working from home. Now the real question is, if there’s so much juice in this lemon, while is everyone not making lemonade already?
Well, there are different sides to this coin. For one, most people would rather do things because they simply want to do them and not out of compulsion; which is the case with the COVID-19 lockdown. Organizations are also forced to take on the WFH approach without much warning or adequate time to come up with a work structure that will benefit the employees as well.
What would you expect? No one has ever gotten a yellow card before the outbreak of a pandemic disease. The WFH situation is intense right now; nonetheless, you don’t have to group in the dark or take years to adjust. Here are some meaningful ways to get it right from the start.
Don’t trash your office routine just yet
What many will soon realize is that working from home doesn’t equate to less output. The bosses will still require that you deliver at optimum come what may. Therefore if you give yourself the same mental push as that of your usual office routine, you will hardly tell the difference.
If you view the whole situation holistically, you will realize that all the extra time you seem to have are from the reduction in your commute, and the time you spend moving around the office for one meeting or the other. In essence, you still have to meet certain deadlines or demands. Therefore, you will adjust faster than you thought possible when you maintain the same attitude to work. COVID-19 is wiping out humans, not the bills!
