2020 has been quite a year so far, and one thing no one saw coming was a pandemic. However, here we are battling the Coronavirus around the world, and its effects are being felt in more ways than one. Apart from the visible impact on our health where it instigates flu-like symptoms and could go on to be severe in the older population or those who are immunosuppressed, businesses are feeling the impact of this pandemic that has crept into about a hundred countries so far, with the death toll rising to maybe 100,000 globally.
Staying safe from the Coronavirus
First and foremost, it is all about making sure that we are safe from the Coronavirus. While scientists are still studying the nature of this virus, they have put out several practices that can help in keeping it from our homes. So, here are some simple tips to prevent yourself from getting infected.
- Practice good hygiene: At this time of the Coronavirus, cleanliness is a significant concern. You need to be more conscious of how often you touch your face and reduce that to the barest minimum. Hand sanitizers are available at moderate prices and look for one which contains at least 60 percent alcohol. Before eating or touching your face, sprinkle a little on your hands and rub it into your hands thoroughly. Alternatively, keep your soap and water handy to wash your hands often.
- Do not touch public surfaces: This could be a little difficult as there are lots of spots where thousands of people touch daily. One of such is an ATM. However, public spaces like this make it easy to transmit the virus as you can easily feel your mouth or nose with these hands. One way to stay safe is to use an object to touch these spots. You can make use of a pen or even your knuckle. Do not use your fingertips to press elevator buttons or public keypads. You can also try opening doors with your elbows.
- Have a tissue handy: Having a pack of tissues is an excellent idea. You can use this to clean surfaces before touching them. You can also sneeze into them and dispose of immediately. As this virus is transmitted through body fluids, be careful not to sneeze openly into the air.
- Be conscious of your health: We are aware of the countries that are currently affected by the current pandemic. This is not the time to go on trips to these affected zones. Instead, make sure that you stay indoors if you feel sick and eat healthy foods.
Businesses affected by Coronavirus
In The Netherlands we have an all-female American Football league made for women by women. We understand the need to create something where women are encouraged to believe in themselves and pursue their true passion. This league is one of them. As it is one of a kind, it has made history as the only American football league for women in Europe. Not hindered by distance or location, women show up to training each day and leave fulfilled. Before Coronavirus originated in China, I have had plans to expand this American football league all over Europe. There were plans to expand to Belgium this year, moving on to Portugal and then Italy in subsequent years. As this project is one in which I own the team and the rights 100%, there have been lots of plans in the works to make it stand out even more.
I understand that this is the era of social media, and we have been working on ways to incorporate this into our all-female American football league. We have been investigating virtual reality for a while and already discussed ways to integrate apps and games into this franchise. Also, we are exploring creating an agency where we can have the girls work as models or influencers, as it is a big deal in today’s world. This is a project that I plan to make all efforts to take to a higher level. Sadly, the Coronavirus has sort of stopped these plans in its tracks. Since its inception, the all-female American league has relied on getting materials for its merchandise from Asian countries. This is not from just China, but several other countries in Asia where this league gets supplied by manufacturers and suppliers. However, since the pandemic started, most of these countries have been on lockdown, stalling the launch of our American league sports bra for Kanessa Brands.
Around Europe, most people are focusing on getting only what they consider the necessities in this time of the pandemic. In local supermarkets, including one in London, the aisles are empty as people have been stocking up on toilet paper, hand soap, and canned food. With the panic mode, people don’t think it is necessary to buy clothes at the moment; it’s all about staying alive. While these are good moves, one of the best steps is to be extra careful about personal hygiene. Avoid excess physical contact with others and keep your hands as clean as possible all day. I believe that one way in which my American league can stand up again amidst the impact of the Coronavirus is with the efforts of investors who will help us as we aim to support women around the world. With charity being a significant aspect of this league, members of the team go all out to assist single mothers and those who have no family. With these efforts, we show them that they are not alone, make sure that we are there to offer support when it matters and give them a family.
Yes, Coronavirus has affected a lot of business so far with more casualties on its way as the fight to contain it continues. This is not the end of my all-female American league. The economy is also having its fair share of hits with stocks dwindling and flights being canceled abruptly due to travel bans. However, there is a strong belief that we can beat this and rise to our feet stronger than before.
