Today I ‘ll like to talk about a very sensitive topic. It’s the issue of pressurising curvy women to lose weight. This trend has been ongoing for years and to me, it is ridiculous as you don’t have to lose weight if you look and feel good/healthy. As a fellow curvy woman, I certainly know how conscious you guys must feel about how you look, how much you weigh and how the world perceives you too! But in all honesty, all of this is unimportant as you don’t have to lose an excessive amount of weight to be healthy.
From my findings, being healthy goes beyond weight loss. To me, it is a lifestyle choice because you literally can weigh about 130 pounds and think you are healthy and life would shock you! You’ll visit your doctor and find out you are actually unhealthy and might have a life-threatening disease whereas someone else can weigh more and she would be certified as super healthy by her doctor. So, don’t let society’s beauty standards force you to lose weight loves! Before you make such a drastic decision and start following fad diets, I advise that you consult your doctor first as he/she will be in a better position to let you know if your weight is harming your health.
However, I strongly advise that you take certain measures to ensure that you stay healthy regardless of your weight. I ‘ll share a couple of things I do to make sure I look, feel and stay healthy. They are as follows:
1) I try to work out regularly: Even though I am a busy mom and wife, I always try to do some form of exercise as I know it has a lot of benefits. You don’t necessarily have to go to the gym if you don’t want to or do anything strenuous, you can talk a walk, go hiking, jog for 30 minutes or even do yoga. Just try to stay active.
2) I always eat a balanced diet: Your body needs and deserves a lot of nutrients, so make sure you give it what it needs daily. I eat carbs, proteins, vegetables, fruits, fats and oils and any other necessary thing my body needs to survive and I ‘ll recommend that you do the same. Just eat well, make sure you are eating the recommended portions and always remember that it is okay to eat ‘junk’ food occasionally! Have a scoop of ice cream now and then, eat that burger you have been craving! Just make sure you treat your body right, once you do that it would certainly do right by you.
I also make sure I sleep well (this can be tough with children), avoid stress at all costs, go for regular health checks and, guard my mental health.
